What a thrill it was for PLUS to be involved in the 2007 Love Your Body Day in Hollywood, CA!
If you are not familiar with the organization, NOW's purpose is to, "Take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men."
Each year, on Love Your Body Day, activists around the country say "No" to twisted beauty standards and hazardous advertisements by holding rallies, pickets, house parties, classroom discussions and more.
I was so excited because I finally booked a paying gig that was shot on location and everything! It was going to be for an industrial that centered around the reenactment of one woman's spiritual journey that led her to lose 300 pounds. The reenactment was to be shot by a Japanese film company that is based in Northern California. I have to admit to you that I wasn't thrilled to play the "before" character. Needless to say, it is hard to play a role where your body being criticized is the plot. But in the end I was drawn to the project because it was a true story of a real woman who had struggled and found a spiritual path to weight loss as opposed to some hokey diet. They hired me sight unseen (I never auditioned with them in person) and asked me to fly out immediately.
Born and raised in Paris, France, plus Model Anabelle Ursulet was discovered as she walked in the street one day. Her beauty is undeniable but it's the genuine love for who she is and whom she represents that sets her apart.
[Maddy] How did you become interested in plus size modeling? How long have you been modeling?
[Anabelle] I have been modeling for 5 1/2 years. I have always been a curvy girl and fell into the industry by accident. One day I was walking down the street and a Swedish stylist, who was finishing a casting, happened to see me and that is how it all began.
You may have noticed that when the weather begins to get a little colder, your skin gets considerably drier. You may have noticed that your summer moisturizer just isn't doing what you think that it should. This is because there is less moisture in the air now, the temperatures have dropped and now your skin has begun to dehydrate.
Here are some tips for face and body to keep your skin from over-drying!
Prep:
Your face should be clean, exofliated (1-2 times a week) and moisturized before we even begin applying the basics. Be sure to apply eye cream to the under eye area as well, because it will affect the way your concealer goes on later. Any makeup product will resemble mud if you don't prep your skin!
Prime:
An optional, yet important step (ask any makeup artist) before applying your foundation is applying a primer. Although I would hate to compare painting your face with painting your walls, you would never apply paint straight to an unprimed wall because it just will not go on as smoothly.
A primer will help you create a smooth canvas for the rest of your makeup & assist in its staying power!
Tune in the week of November 12th as our Editorial Photographer, Velvet DAmour, talks with reporter, Patrick Cox. The radio segment is for a series he is doing for (BBC) The World (USA-based), which includes a segment on Size Acceptance in France. Patrick went to South Africa and UK, as well as other places, for the different segments included in his series (one of which is the France story).
