Weighting For Godot

Measurejan082My deadline for this column came super fast this month what with the holidays and I found myself for the first time in months trying to scrounge something up to write about. Stopping off at my neighborhood Ralph's supermarket-Jennifer Love Hewitt's womanly & sexy body leapt at me from the cover of People Magazine. Hewitt was defending "unflattering" pictures taken of herself on a recent trip to Hawaii. She is quoted as saying: "A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be."

MUA Tara Taylor Shares Whitney Cunningham's Cover Look!

Coverjan08For those of you who were 'wowed' by PLUS cover model Whitney Cunningham's look, we turned to MUA for the shoot, Tara Taylor! Here is what she had to say...

To enhance Whitney’s already flawless skin, I used Iman Cosmetics Stick Foundation. It’s oil-free and contains antioxidants, so it won’t clog the pores and it will help protect the skin from free radicals.

For Whitney’s soft smoky plum eyes we used MAC Paint in “Deep Shadow” blended up from the lash line just past the crease. This creates a base to hold the shadow and provides for a richer and more intense color. Blended on top of the eye base, as well as along the lower lash line, I applied NARS shadow in “Night Fever.” Tara then highlighted Whitney’s brow with Anastasia Eyelights in “Matte Camille.”

A light dusting of Makeup Designory’s “Garnet” cheek color brings youth and softness to the face.

Whitney’s lips are lined with MAC “Chestnut” liner, filled in lightly with NARS lipstick in “Afghan Red” and topped with a sheer shimmery gloss.

Before and After... An Interview With Shanta Washington

1203One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is being able to meet aspiring models and watch them grow in the industry. Together with my husband, we shoot many aspiring plus size models. I pay close attention to the aspiring models especially when they are shooting for the very first time.

I can remember my first shoot and not knowing what a models bag was, the proper shoes to bring, under garments and how to choose the right clothing combinations. By providing as much information as possible I believe that an aspiring models first shoot can be a successful one.
