"...You need a great big woman. No diet plate woman. No slim fast woman. You need a great big woman to show you how to love..." Lyrics by Candye Kane: singer, songwriter and political activist whose career has spanned more than two decades! She has appeared on television shows like Queen Latifah, Roseanne and HBO Real Sex. She has released eight CDs and is featured in Rolling Stone Magazines Guide to Jazz and Blues. And she is one of my all-time favorite champions of size acceptance!
The Miss NYC Plus Competition took place this past March at the Julia Miles Theater. Director, Chanel Clark, brought the audience an array of beautiful women one of which was crowned Miss NYC Plus. The winner Nic Moore was visibly shocked when her name was called as the over-all winner and it is my pleasure to bring you a bit closer to this voluptuous beauty.
[Maddy] How did you find out about the Miss NYC Plus Competition?
[Nic] Through a friend...
[Maddy] Why did you decide to enter the Miss NYC Plus competition?
Ashley Stewart has been a long time supporter of PLUS Model Magazine. I'm always eager to report news and updates from AS. I had the privilege of being invited to the Ashley Stewart shoot in NYC where Crystal Madison, the most recent winner of the Woman of Style, was shooting her very first campaign.
On set I caught up with Executive Vice President and General Manager Marla Minns as well as past PLUS cover model and American Idol contestant Joanne Borgella.
Part 4: Taking YOUR Career Seriously (The Business of YOU)
As I enter the 4th month period in my new position as a Model Booker for IPM Models, I gotta tell you.... I come home every night with a new story about an aspiring model that crossed my path that day. Last month I could have easily written several more pages on the topic of Agency/Model Expectations but I only had a limited amount of space that I could work with. I promise you, I will do a second part to that article later, as many of you have given me plenty of material to pull from.

When did you decide you wanted to be a plus model?
I decided I wanted to be a plus size model when I was about 15 years old. I was shopping at the mall in one of the few plus size stores there and saw a poster of model who I thought resembled me. It was like being struck by lightening!
